Master of Puppets

For more than 20 years, puppeteer Dave Goboff has brought handmade characters to audiences from New York to Florida. In Gainesville he runs Simply Puppets, where he creates shows and crafting workshops for people of all ages.

Sisters

Two young women from Utah are serving in the Florida Jacksonville Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As sister missionaries, they travel throughout North Florida meeting new people and sharing their faith while adjusting to new areas every few months. Their work comes at a time when the church is gaining national attention and facing public misconceptions. From growing portrayals in pop culture to a recent shooting at a Michigan meetinghouse, the missionaries are navigating how their faith fits into a changing cultural landscape.

Bagpipe John

John Maze is a longtime University of Florida professor at the College of Architecture, Construction and Design as well as a passionate bagpiper. For more than 30 years, he has brought both disciplines together, teaching generations of students while keeping a centuries-old musical tradition alive throughout Gainesville. His music has become a familiar sound at university events and community gatherings, connecting Scottish heritage with North Florida life. Through decades of teaching, Maze has inspired students to find rhythm, discipline, and joy in their craft both in and out of the classroom.

Building Braze Ranch

At Braze Ranch in Gainesville, Fla., Ben Roland and Sarah Luther are building a life together. Over the past two years, they’ve worked to grow their farm in Waldo, Fla., into a seasonal destination for their community.
